According to the Hindu calendar, Falgun month has started from 17th February. Many festivals and fasts of color and enthusiasm knock in this month. In this sequence, Holi, the festival of colors, is also a law to be celebrated in this month. In this year 2022, Holi festival will be celebrated with great enthusiasm on 18th March, Friday. But just before Holi, Holashtak will be held.
According to Sanatan Dharma, doing any auspicious or auspicious work during Holashtak is considered especially taboo.
It is forbidden to do auspicious work in Holashtak.
As in religion and astrology, some special Muhurtas are fixed for auspicious and auspicious works. In the same way, some inauspicious times have also been told for any auspicious work, during which it is considered taboo to do any auspicious work. This is an inauspicious time when it is forbidden to do auspicious work, otherwise the result of that work is very inauspicious to the person. In such a situation, Holashtak is also one of the periods considered to be taboo for these auspicious works. Which starts exactly 8 days before Holika Dahan. That is, the period of 8 days before Holika Dahan is called Holashtak and according to experts no auspicious work is done in these 8 days. But in spite of this, this period proves to be very useful for the worship of God and the favored deities.
Holashtak will take up to 8 days
According to the Hindu calendar, every year Holika Dahan is performed on the last day of Falgun month i.e. on the full moon day of Falgun. But before this, every year Holashtak starts from the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Falgun month and ends with Holika Dahan. According to the belief, during these 8 days, every auspicious work like marriage, shaving, home entry, house-vehicle shopping, Karnavedh, Janeu Sanskar etc. will be prohibited.
Beginning of Holashtak 2022
According to the Panchang, in the year 2022, the period of Holashtak will start from 02:58 in the morning on Thursday, March 10 and it will remain till the full moon date i.e. 12:49 in the afternoon on March 18. For this reason, the period of Holashtak will also start from 10 March 2022 and will end on 18 March 2022.
Keep these things in mind during Holashtak:-
According to religious beliefs, during the 8 days of Holashtak, King Hiranyakashipu, along with his sister Holika, had given many tortures to kill his son and Lord Vishnu's devotee Prahlad during the 8 days of Holashtak. For this, King Hiranyakashipu and his sister Holika made a big conspiracy to kill Prahlad by burning him in the fire on the last day, in which Holika herself died in the end. Therefore no auspicious work is done during these 8 days and the person is advised to do devotion to God only. During the period of Holashtak, one should specifically avoid doing the following activities:-
During the period of Holashtak, one should refrain from performing 16 rituals related to Hinduism, including marriage, shaving, griha pravesh, etc.
One should also avoid buying houses, vehicles, jewelry, clothes, furniture etc. during this period.
Starting any investment or new work and business is also considered inauspicious at this time.
Any newly married woman should also avoid seeing the first Holi in her in-laws' house.
Avoid filing any legal court case during Holashtak.
If a family member dies in these 8 days, then a special ritual should be performed by the co-family for the peace of their soul.
