Mythology related to Papmochani Ekadashi

It is said that once in a beautiful forest named Chaitrarath, famous sage Chyawan lived with his son Medhavi. One day, while Meritorious was doing penance, Manjughosha, an Apsara from the heavenly world, passed by. Seeing the meritorious, his sharp and beautiful Manjughosha became crazy about him. In such a situation, Apsara tried a lot to woo Medhavi towards her. However she failed in this.

Cupid was watching all these actions of Apsara Manjughosha. Kamadeva was well aware of Manjughosha's spirit. In such a situation, Kamadeva himself helped Manjughosha to woo Medhavi and in the end both were successful. After this, Medhavi and Manjughosha were happily happy in their lives. But after some time Medhavi realized his mistake that how he had taken this step by distracting his attention. Then he cursed Manjughosha. In which he said that you become a vampire.

Manjughosha now started apologizing to Meritorious and started asking him for ways to remove this curse. Then Medhavi told him, 'You are sinful.

Fast on Chani Ekadashi. This will take away your sins. After this, Medhavi also fasted on this Ekadashi and he too was freed from his sins and as a result, Medhavi got his radiance back.
