In Sanatan culture, there is a tradition of applying tilak on the forehead of another person by a Brahmin person before starting any new work, apart from any religious rituals like Yagya, worship, etc. During this, tilak is applied on the forehead with roli, sandalwood, kumkum etc. According to religious beliefs, Lord Vishnu is seated in the middle of the person's brain, so always Tilak is applied in the center of the person's forehead. Also, there are many scientific reasons behind applying tilak on the forehead.
The place where Tika or Tilak is applied on the forehead, that part is called Agya Chakra. According to physiology, due to the location of the pineal gland, when the pineal gland is stimulated, a kind of light is felt inside the brain. This has been proved by experiments, our sages knew very well that the stimulation of the pineal gland would stimulate the command chakra. For this reason, due to the practice of vaccinating in religious rituals, worship-worship and auspicious deeds, the gross and subtle components in our body can be awakened by its repeated stimulation. In this easy way, the interest of the general public towards righteousness, towards spirituality, by knowing the third eye, efforts have been made in the direction of its elimination, due to which the Agya Chakra gets regular stimulation.

Tilak is always applied with the ring finger. The ring finger is a symbol of the sun. The ring finger is also connected with the nerves of the heart. Due to which it is also a symbol of emotion and brilliance. Applying tilak with ring finger gives splendour and prestige. Also, whenever a tilak is applied to the thumb for honor and respect. By applying tilak with the thumb, one gets knowledge and ornaments. Tilak is applied with the index finger for victory.

There are 7 small centers of energy in our body called chakras and these chakras are the storehouses of immense power (Energy Source). According to Samudra Shastra, applying tilak on the forehead with the ring finger gives peace to a person. By applying tilak with the middle finger, the life of a person increases. In ancient times, soldiers going to war were blessed with a victorious bhava by tiling their thumbs.
Moksha is attained by applying tilak on the forehead every year on the occasion of bathing in the Ganges. In this way, applying tilak on the forehead after religious rituals in Sanatan Dharma removes all the sins of a person and his life is endowed with wealth and food.
