Who was Mahishasura: How did Mahishasura come into existence and the reason behind the incarnation of Goddess Durga

Who was Mahishasur

Mahishasura was the grandson of Brahma Rishi Kashyap and Danu and the son of Rambha, the king of Asuras. Mahishasura's father Rambha was the king of Asuras.

Once Rambha, the king of demons, fell in love with a nymph Mahishi, and he married her. Mahishi was cursed to become a buffalo. Therefore, when a son was born to Rambha and Mahishi, his name was Mahishasura (Mahish means buffalo, buffalo-like demon).

Mahishasura inherited many powers from his parents, he had a special power by which he could transform from a human to a buffalo or from a buffalo to a human at any time (you can also call him a wish-fulfilling buffalo).

Mahishasura grew up to be a very powerful demon and also became the king of demons. Now he wanted to become the king not only of the underworld but also of all three worlds including heaven. But it was not easy for him to face Indra Dev, the god was extremely powerful.

Mahishasura was a great devotee of the creator Brahma. To become more powerful than the gods, Mahishasura pleased Lord Brahma by doing severe penance.

When Lord Brahma asked him to ask for a boon, he asked for the boon of immortality. Lord Brahma told him that it was not possible to give this boon because the boon of immortality is given in very special circumstances and to special personalities.

When Brahma ji asked Mahishasura to ask for another boon, Mahishasura said - "Lord, then give me such a boon that no god or man can kill me." He thought that anyway a woman cannot conquer me and God And if men cannot kill me then consider that I have become immortal.

How did it originate and die?

Mahishasura also received many more powers from Lord Brahma and became much more powerful. Brahma ji also left from there saying Amen.

What happened next, Mahishasura became very arrogant after getting the boon. Now he along with his demon army invaded Devlok i.e. heaven. With full preparation, Mahishasura attacked heaven. Devraj Indra, the king of heaven, was not completely prepared for this war.

Indra fired his thunderbolt but Mahishasura had become very powerful by then. The result was that the huge army of demons defeated the army of the gods and the gods had to vacate heaven and run away from there.

Mahishasura became the king of heaven, and whoever opposed him was killed. Mahishasura also tortured many women. Now the gods had no option left but to seek help from the Trinity. Lord Brahma did not kill his devotee Mahishasura, now the gods took refuge in Lord Vishnu.

Narayan took the deities with him to Kailash because it is Lord Shiva who is worshiped by both gods and demons. It is said that Lord Vishnu had fought with Mahishasura and defeated him, but to honor the boon of Brahma Dev, he left Mahishasura alive.

Now Mahadev was the only one who, if he got angry, would kill Mahishasura without thinking about Brahma ji's boon. The gods had hoped for Mahadev, but he refused to kill Mahishasura. Now Brahma ji, Vishnu ji, and Shiv ji, all three had refused to kill Mahishasura. The gods became very sad and went towards the earth from Kailash.

Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are extremely angry due to the wrath of Mahishasura:

Such is the story that Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva were filled with extreme anger after seeing the gods wandering on the earth due to the wrath of Mahishasura. At the same time, a great radiance emerged out of anger from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. A luminous power also merged with the bodies of other gods and became one with that radiance. This luminous power was like a mountain. Its flames started spreading in ten directions. This beam of light had a different form as it appeared from the bodies of all the gods.

These goddesses were born to kill Mahishasura, hence they were called 'Mahishasura Mardini'. Seeing the goddess who appeared from the effulgence of all the gods, the joy of the suffering gods knew no bounds. Lord Shiva first gave his trident to the goddess. Lord Vishnu also presented his Chakra to the Goddess. Similarly, all the gods and goddesses placed various types of weapons in the hands of the goddess. Indra took down his thunderbolt and Airavat from the elephant and gave one bell to the goddess. Surya, filling his hair with the splendor of his hair and rays, offered the shield, sword, and divine lion i.e. the lion to the goddess for riding. Vishwakarma gave him many impenetrable armor and weapons and decorated Mahishasur Mardini with all types of big and small weapons.

The angry eight-armed form of Mother Jagadamba Bhavani, the mother of the world:

According to another story which seems more correct to me, Lord Shiva told this to his better half Parvati. The killing of Mahishasura at the hands of Mahadev would have been against the boon of Brahma ji, it would have been an insult to Brahma ji.. But the killing of Mahishasura at the hands of Mahadevi (Parvati ji) would not have been an insult to the boon. She is a woman, now only Gauri Mata could solve this problem. Seeing the condition of the gods, Jagadamba Bhavani, the mother of the world, became so angry that a flame-like flame started emanating from her body, and within no time she became eight-armed (Maa Durga) and rode on a lion.

Aadi Shakti (Maa Durga) was worshiped by all the gods with their weapons. Dh ho. Now Parvati ji departed from Kailash.

Suddenly demons came there, and they told Mahishasura about Parvati ji (Maa Durga).

After some time, Mahishasura saw that a huge, beautiful woman with many arms and armed with weapons was sitting on a lion and laughing.

Mahishasura came there and as soon as he saw Mother Parvati (Maa Durga) closely, he was filled with lust after seeing her beauty.

He said to Parvati ji (Maa Durga) – O beautiful woman! After seeing you, I have made up my mind to marry you, I, Mahishasura, the king of demons, will take you with me and you will become the queen of demons. I have never seen a woman as beautiful as you before. Why don't you leave Mahadev and become my wife? Hearing the words of this uncivilized demon, Goddess Parvati (Maa Durga) became extremely angry. Mata Rani said- O arrogant demon! You have lost your mind due to lust, you tortured women too, snatched away heaven from the gods and your ego kept on increasing. Now your end is near. After listening to his mother, Mahishasura laughed and said I have been blessed that no man can kill me, no woman has the strength to kill me. I am immortal. Saying this, Mahishasura came to Mother Parvati (Maa Durga). Mata Rani assumed the fierce form of Durga and attacked Mahishasura's army.

The commander of Mahishasura's army came forward and started fighting with the goddess. A great demon named Udgra also jumped into this war with 60 thousand demons. The demon named Mahanu jumped into the war with one crore soldiers, the demon Ashiloma with five crore soldiers and the demon named Vaskal jumped into the war with 60 lakh soldiers. All the gods were watching this great war with great curiosity. All the infallible weapons of the demons were proving to be dwarfs in front of the Goddess, but Goddess Bhagwati started destroying the army of demons with her weapons.

For nine days, Mother Parvati, who had become Durga, destroyed the Asur army and on the 10th day fought with Mahishasura when Mahishasura, fearing defeat, tried to deceive Mother by changing into a buffalo, then Mata Rani's lion attacked him. Ultimately Durga Mata killed Mahishasura with her trident.

In this war, not only Mahishasura was killed, but many other demons were also killed. All of them had spread terror in all three worlds. All the gods and goddesses were pleased and showered flowers from the sky.

We celebrate this day as Vijay Dashami. It was the victory of good over evil. On this day Lord Shri Ram also killed Ravana.
