Maa Kalratri - Seventh day of Navratri

Mata Kalratri is worshiped on the seventh day of Navratri. She is considered equivalent to Goddess Parvati. The meaning of the name of the goddess is Kaal means death/time and Ratri means night. The literal meaning of the name of the goddess is the destroyer of darkness.

Form of Mata Kalratri

Goddess Kalratri is of Krishna color. They ride donkeys. The goddess has four arms, both the right hands are in abhaya and var mudra respectively, while the left hand holds sword and khadaga respectively.

Mythological beliefs

According to mythological beliefs, there were two demons named Shumbh and Nishumbh who created havoc in Devlok. In this war, Indra Dev, the king of the gods, was defeated and Devlok was ruled by the demons. Then all the gods went to Mother Parvati to get back their world. The goddess was bathing in her house when the deities narrated their agony to the goddess, so they sent Chandi to help her.

When Goddess Chandi went to war with the demons, the demons sent Chanda-Munda to fight her. Then the goddess created Maa Kalratri. Then the goddess killed him, due to which he was named Chamunda. After this a demon named Raktabeej came to fight them. He was able to make his body gigantic and a new demon (raktabeej) was born from the fall of his blood (blood). Then the goddess thought of killing him and drinking his blood, so that neither his blood would fall on the ground and no one else would be born.

There are many references about Mata Kalratri. Let us tell one of them that how did Goddess Parvati transform into Durga? According to the beliefs, a demon named Durgasur was constantly trying to attack Mount Kailash, the abode of Shiva-Parvati, in the absence of Goddess Parvati. So Goddess Parvati sent Kalratri to deal with him, but he was getting bigger and bigger. Then the goddess made herself more powerful and was equipped with weapons. After that, as soon as Durgasur tried to attack Kailash again, the goddess killed him. That is why she was called Durga.

Goddess Kalratri controls the planet Saturn. The evil effects of Shani are reduced by worshiping the Goddess.
