According to the Panchang, the festival of Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month. On this day, married women keep a fast for the long life and good health of their husbands. This fast is also difficult like Karva Chauth. On the day of Hariyali Teej, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati are worshiped by making clay idols with their own hands. This time Ravi Yoga is also being formed on the day of Hariyali Teej. Remembering Shiva and Parvati, one should take a vow of Nirjala fast.
On the evening of Hariyali Teej, idols of Shiva-Parvati made of raw clay made with their own hands are worshipped.
In worship, Lord Shiva is offered Belpatra, Bhang, Datura, Madar, Roli, Akshat etc.
Sixteen items of makeup should be offered to Mother Parvati like chunari, vermilion, bangles and bindi etc.
By offering Panchamrit, one should pray to Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati for the long life of the husband and a happy married life.

There is a very popular story related to Hariyali Teej. Once upon a time, Mother Parvati wanted to remember about her previous birth but she could not remember anything. In such a situation, Bholenath says to Goddess Parvati that O Parvati! You were born 107 times to get me but you could not get me as husband. But in the 108th birth, you were born in the house of the mountain king Himalaya and did severe penance to get me as a bridegroom.
Narada came with a marriage proposal
Lord Shiva says that O Parvati! You ate leaves after giving up food and water, and even after suffering thousands in winter, heat and rain, you were absorbed in your fast. Seeing your sufferings, your father was very sad, then Narada Muni came to your house and said that Lord Vishnu has sent me. Lord Vishnu is very pleased with your daughter and he wants to marry her, I have come to you with this message of Lord Vishnu.

Parvati lost in devotion to Shiva
Hearing Naradji's proposal, Parvati's father happily agreed to marry Lord Vishnu. Naradamuni also narrated this auspicious message to Lord Vishnu. But when Parvati came to know about this, she was very sad. Parvati narrated her mind to her friend. Then Sakhi hid Mata Parvati in a dense forest. When the Himalayas came to know about the disappearance of Parvati, they united the earth and the underworld in search, but Parvati was nowhere to be found. Because Goddess Parvati was worshiping Shiva by making a Shivling out of sand inside a cave in the forest.
Shiva told the secret of marriage to Parvati
Shiva said, O Parvati! In this way I was very pleased with your worship and fulfilled your wish. When Himalayaraj reached the cave, you told your father that I have chosen Shiva as my husband and he has fulfilled my wish. Shiva has killed me. I will go with you only on one condition that you agree to get me married to Bholenath. Then O Parvati! Your father agreed and we got married with the rules and regulations. O Parvati! We could get married only because of your strict tenacity and fasting.

Lord Shiva says to Goddess Parvati, O Parvati! Whoever performs this Hariyali Teej with devotion, I will give him the desired results. He will get the kind of happiness he will get from you. Since then unmarried girls keep this fast to wish for a good husband. On the other hand, married women keep this fast for the long life of their husbands. In the Bhavishya Purana, Goddess Parvati herself has told that by observing Hariyali Teej, women get happiness and good fortune. Like After many years of hard penance on Tritiya Tithi in the forest month, Goddess Parvati had obtained the boon of having Lord Shiva as her husband, hence this fast is of great importance.
