Worshiping Lord Shiva in the month of Sawan fulfills every wish. As innocent as Shiva is, he is also mysterious. Their form, their symbols and their ganas are all Shivamay.
Nandi Bhairav, Veerabhadra, Manibhadra, Chandis, Shringi, Bhrigiriti, Shail, Gokarna, Ghantakarna, Jai and Vijay are also one of the main Ganas of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Nandi was the author of the ancient books Dharmashastra, Arthashastra and Mokshashastra.
How Nandi became Lord of Shiva After severe penance of Shiva, sage Shilad found Nandi in the form of a son. Shilad Rishi imparted the knowledge of entire Vedas to his son Nandi. One day two divine sages named Mitra and Varuna came to Shilad Rishi's ashram. Nandi served those sages well with the permission of his father. When the sage started leaving, he blessed Rishi Shilad with a long life and a happy life but not Nandi.
Then Shilad Rishi asked him why did he not bless Nandi? On this the sages said that Nandi is short-lived. Hearing this, Shilad Rishi got worried. Knowing his father's concern, Nandi asked what is the matter, father. Then the father said that the sage has said about your short life, that is why I am worried. Hearing this, Nandi started laughing and said that if you have found me by the grace of Lord Shiva, then you will also protect my age there, why do you worry unnecessarily.
After saying this, Nandi went to the banks of the river Bhuvan to do penance for Shiva. After rigorous penance, Shiva appeared and said that the boon demands Vatsa. Then Nandi said that I want to be in your company for the rest of my life. Pleased with Nandi's dedication, Lord Shiva first embraced Nandi and, giving him the face of a bull, accepted him as his vehicle, his friend, the best among his ganas.
Nandi ji is seated at the entrance of Baidyanath temple in Deoghar, the city of Baba Baijnath and right next to him is the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. There are four Nandi Baba, the younger and the bigger. It is said that Nandi is seated at the main gate of every Shiva temple, hence he is called the gatekeeper of Shiva.
Nandi is the most beloved of Lord Shiva. Mahadev rides on them. Those who worship Lord Shiva also bow down to Nandi and whisper in his ears. It is a religious belief that whatever your wishes you say to Nandi ji, they all reach Lord Shiva. By the grace of Shiva, those wishes are fulfilled.

Shiva's special grace on Nandi
According to mythology, Lord Bholenath had told Nandi in Satyuga that when he is absorbed in meditation and penance, then any devotee will say his sorrows and desires in your ear, all those things will reach me. It is also said that when Lord Shiva was in meditation, Mother Parvati also used to say her words in Nandi's ears.
