Method of worshiping Shivling in Shiv Mahapuran: -

In Shiva Mahapuran, the method of worshiping many types of Shivling has been described. In which the description of Swayambhu Linga, Bindu Linga, Pratishti Linga, Char Linga, and Guru Linga is found. Worshiping the Swayambhu Linga increases the knowledge and wealth of the worshipper. For this reason, the self-manifested linga is considered to fulfill all kinds of wishes. The special importance of Bhasma in Shiva Purana:-

The special importance of Bhasma has been told in Shiva Purana. Just as the king receives the essence in his kingdom. In the same way, a human being consumes the essence of food by cooking it, and the alimentary canal absorbs the essence by burning different types of edible food in the fire of the stomach. In the same way, God Bholenath, the creator of the world, burnt the world in its half-form and took all its elements in the form of ashes. Lord Shiva took all the elements of the world on the pretext of applying the world's ashes. Lord Shiva established the ashes in the form of gems for himself in his body. Maheshwar wore Tripund in the middle of his forehead as Tilak. He is the essence of Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra. Bhasma means Vibhuti has been described as three types. Vibhuti generated by Shaiva fire [lokagni], Vibhuti generated by Vedagni, and Vibhuti generated by Shiva fire [shivagni] is used for the purification of substances.

Shaiva fire-born Vibhuti: -

The Shaivite fire is for those who have been initiated and advanced in their religious merit and inner purity. The ash obtained from the sacred fire is of four types:

कल्पा, अनुकल्पा, उपकल्प, अकल्पा

Kalpa is prepared from fresh cow dung, mixed with five bilva leaves. Then the five products of the cow, namely milk, curd, ghee, urine, and dung are mixed in proper proportion and rolled into small balls while chanting a sacred formula. Then paddy husk is spread evenly in a clean place and cow dung cakes are placed on that bed. After burning the husk, the balls are cooked in the fire till they get white ash, which is the purest.

Anukalp is prepared from pasture-dried cow dung, which is pounded with a pestle and mortar to make a powder. Then it should be filtered with a fine cloth and mixed with cow's urine. It is wrapped in a round shape and placed on top of the husk. After cooking it is taken out. Bilva leaves are not mixed in these ashes.

Upkalpa is prepared not from cow dung but from the white ash from trees burnt in forest fires or brick kilns. It is mixed with five cow products. The appropriate sacred formula should be chanted at these different stages.

Akalpa is not made but is obtained from nature in places where there is light, on hilltops, or in some naturally sacred places like Tiruvannamalai, Thiruneermalai, and Rameshwaram.

Vibhuti generated by Vedagni:-

The homa karma which is generated by mantras and actions in the Vibhuti generated by Vedagni. She gets consumed in the fire. The ash generated from this is called Vibhuti born of Vedagni.

After this, the third type of Vibhuti is the ashes obtained by burning Kapila cow dung, Shami Patra, Peepal, Palash, Vat, Amaltas, and Bilva. It is called Shivagni Bhasma. These ashes must be used on the forehead and on the arm in the worship of Shiva. Whenever we worship Lord Bholenath or do special worship or worship Shivling, applying Vibhuti on the head at that time gives the best results. This gives the ultimate blessings of Lord Bholenath.

Shiva fire born Vibhuti: -

There are two types of ash obtained from the Shiva fire:

Guru Bhasma (also known as Maha Bhasma)

Laghu Bhasma (ordinary ash).

Guru Bhasma is Shiva himself, the cause and source of all auspicious fires, especially the three sacred (strata) fires known as the sacrificial fire (ahavaniya), the southern fire (Dakshina), and the householder fire (garhapatya).

Laghu Bhasma (ordinary ash) is also of two types – natural and artificial. Natural Bhasma is produced from Shiva Agni Bhasma. It is said that this Shiva Agni appears as a sacrificial fire on Lord Shiva's forehead to free himself from bondage.
