Tulsi ka vivah kab hua tha: Know the complete story of Tulsi's marriage with Shaligram
According to the legend, once Lord Shiva threw his glory into the sea. A very brilliant child was born from him. This child later became a mighty demon king by the name of Jalandhar. The name of its capital was Jalandhar city.
Daityaraj Kalanemi's daughter Vrinda was married to
Jalandhar. Jalandhar was a great demon. Intoxicated with his power, he fought
with the desire to gain access to Goddess Lakshmi, but since he was born from
the sea, Goddess Lakshmi accepted him as her brother. Defeated from there, he
went to Mount Kailash with the desire to find Goddess Parvati.
Lord Devadhidev took the form of Shiva and went near Mother
Parvati, but the mother immediately recognized him with her power of yoga and
disappeared from there. Goddess Parvati got angry and narrated the whole story
to Lord Vishnu.
Jalandhar's wife Vrinda was a very devoted woman. Jalandhar
got the power of his Pativrata Dharma due to which Jalandhar was neither killed
nor defeated. He had defeated all the gods. He also troubled the Apsaras a lot.
Due to fear of him, all the Apsaras of heaven hid themselves in the caves of
the mountains.
When he could not find the Apsaras, his desire increased so
much that he started longing to find Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Parvati, which
is why it was very necessary to break Vrinda's vow to her husband to destroy
Jalandhar.
For this reason, Lord Vishnu took the form of a sage and
went to the forest, where Vrinda was traveling alone. There were two elusive
demons along with the Lord, seeing whom Vrinda became frightened. The sage
incinerated both of them in a moment in front of Vrinda. Seeing his power,
Vrinda asked about her husband Jalandhar who was fighting with Mahadev on Mount
Kailash.
The sage revealed two monkeys from his web of illusion. One
monkey had the head of Jalandhar in his hand and the torso in the other hand.
Seeing this condition of her husband, Vrinda fainted and fell down. After
regaining consciousness, she requested God in the form of a sage to bring her
husband back to life.
God again attached Jalandhar's head to his body with his
illusion, but he himself also entered the same body. Vrinda did not even
realize this deceit. Vrinda started behaving chastely with Lord Jalandhar, due
to which her chastity was broken. As soon as this happened, Vrinda's husband
was defeated in the Jalandhar war.
Here some intellectuals comment that being God, why did
Vishnu ji do this immoral act because breaking someone's family circle is a
heinous crime.
See, any action depends on the situation, if a person kills
another person then the court gives him the death penalty and if a soldier on the
border kills 100 soldiers then the President honors him with Surveer Paramveer
Chakra. What was the motive behind the action? With the power of Vrinda's
marital vow, Jalandhar was breaking the marital vows of all the women of the
world. Therefore, if by breaking the marital vow of one woman, the marital vows
of all the women of the world are protected, then it becomes an act of religion
and not unrighteousness. Due to this wish, Vrinda's marital vow was broken. But
still, Lord Vishnu accepted to become a stone.
When Vrinda came to know about all this Leela, she got angry
and cursed Lord Vishnu to become a heartless stone. Lord Vishnu accepted the
curse of his devotee and Shaligram became stone. Due to the transformation of
the sustainer of the universe into stone, there was a situation of imbalance in
the universe. Seeing this, all the gods and goddesses prayed to Vrinda to free
Lord Vishnu from the curse.
Vrinda freed Lord Vishnu from the curse and committedsuicide. Where Vrinda was burnt to ashes, the Tulsi plant grew from her ashes.
Lord Vishnu said to Vrinda: O Vrinda. Because of your
chastity, you have become more dear to me than Lakshmi. Now you will always be
with me in the form of Tulsi. Since then, every year the day of Dev-Uthavani
Ekadashi of Kartik month is celebrated as Tulsi Vivah. Whoever marries Tulsi
in my Shaligram form will get immense fame in this world and the next world.
This land of the same demon Jalandhar is famous by the name
Jalandhar. The temple of Sati Vrinda is situated in Mohalla Kot Kishanchand. It
is said that there was an ancient cave at this place, which led directly to
Haridwar. By worshiping the temple of Sati Vrinda Devi with a true heart for 40
days, all the wishes are fulfilled.
Even the messengers of Yama cannot enter the house where
Tulsi is present. At the time of death, the one who dies with Tulsi and Ganga
water without Manjari in his mouth becomes free from sins and attains
Vaikuntha Dham. The person who performs Shraddha of his ancestors under the
shade of Tulsi and Amla, his ancestors attain salvation.
